KAYABA CONSOLIDATES ITS EUROPEAN EXPANSION WITH NEW HEADQUARTERS
Having successfully developed its European business over the past few years, Kayaba Industry Company Ltd, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of shock absorbers and suspension components has now opened a new European headquarters in Krefeld, near Dusseldorf, Germany.
Kayaba has greatly expanded its business across Europe with newly opened facilities in Italy and Spain. The company also has well established divisions in France, Germany and the UK.
The new head office covers an area of 10,000 square metres, and has a stockholding capacity of 350,000 components - twice what was available previously. The new facility replaces Kayaba’s former headquarters at nearby Meerbusch, which was spread over five different sites, and eases logistics by consolidating everything in one place.
The new warehouse increases Kayaba’s total storage capacity in Europe to over 500,000 components. This greatly enhances the supply of parts to the European aftermarket, enabling the company to meet its high delivery targets for availability and speed of shipment.
As the new head office is in close proximity to the previous location, disruption caused by the move was kept to a minimum. The new offices are well located, with easy access to road, rail and air links.
Commented Mr Hajime Sato, managing director of Kayaba: "We decided on Krefeld because it offers us an excellent location and fulfils all our criteria. It is easily accessible, modern and greatly increases our potential for further expansion in Europe."

Kayaba - Original Equipment (OE) and Aftermarket
Almost 1 in 4 cars in the world are fitted with KYB shock absorbers as original equipment
In Japan, Kayaba owns the biggest shock absorber factory in the world with a production capacity of 50 million pieces per year. As a group, all its manufacturing sites are certified for ISO9001, QS9000 and ISO14001.
Kayaba products are supplied to all the major automotive manufacturers including Alfa Romeo, Audi, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, Seat, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen and many others.
As a preferred supplier to Renault, the company has worked closely with the manufacturer in the development of shock absorbers for the new Mégane and more recently for the Mégane Coupé Cabriolet (CC), for which it supplies MacPherson struts for the front, and Twin tube shocks for the rear. These are delivered to Renault’s assembly plants in France, Spain, Turkey, Mexico and Brazil.
Kayaba Industry Co. also develops and manufactures motorcycle front forks, which are supplied as original equipment to manufacturers such as Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha.
An original equipment and aftermarket brand
With its strong experience in original equipment, Kayaba also distributes its shock absorbers to the aftermarket, which represents about 25% of its business. These aftermarket products are manufactured on the same production lines as those for original equipment, guaranteeing the same quality as approved by the world’s leading automotive manufacturers.

Facts and Figures
Product Range - in brief
In the UK Kayaba sells 3,200 shock absorber references which gives a coverage of 98.7% of the automotive aftermarket. The product range is for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (LCVs), and includes:
Kayaba UK also supplies a comprehensive range of 1,200 coil springs and over 100 lowering kits.
Product Range - in detail
Kayaba produces a portfolio of world-class suspension components that includes six ranges of shock absorbers, as well as a full range of suspension mounting kits, protection kits, replacement coil springs and lowering kits.
This is the standard replacement shock absorber range, with self-adjusting valving, and is available for most European cars.
This product is designed to help upgrade a car’s worn suspension system, restoring its original damping characteristics, and thereby improving comfort and safety to help give better-than-new road control.
The KYB Excel-G is the standard replacement gas charged shock absorber, and offers an economical upgrade for most makes and models of European cars.
Customer benefits include improved handling and performance and the prevention of performance fading, resulting in better vehicle control, road holding, comfort and safety.
Designed for high performance vehicles and 4x4s, this high performance shock absorber features a monotube construction filled with high-pressure gas to give unsurpassed control, both on and off-road.
Benefits to the motorist include the prevention of performance fade, high levels of comfort and safety, instant response to all and changing driving conditions, and a reduction in the wear of tyres and other suspension components.
KYB Ultra SR
For the ultimate in road performance, Kayaba has a range of performance shock absorbers, which are designed to give excellent driving stability and increased safety for the more enthusiastic and sporting driver.
Featuring a firmer damping force to improve road holding and steering stability, the KYB Ultra SR shock absorber is particularly well suited to high performance cars, and especially when used with lowered coil springs (up to 35mm). Ultra SR is available in both twin-tube and mono-tube construction, and charged with high-pressure gas.
AGX is an adjustable gas charged shock absorber for high performance cars, and is available as a twin tube shock absorber, strut or cartridge.
Offering up to eight different damping characteristics from soft to firm, AGX has all the adjustability of a race-tuned shock absorber with the simplicity needed for day-to-day motoring.
The shocks allow drivers to ‘dial-in’ their preferred performance setting to match their style of driving. Whether commuting to work, cruising up the motorway, touring at high speed on rural back roads, or getting ready for a track test day, the driver can literally fine tune the shocks' damping rate accordingly.
Kayaba’s new MonoMax high-pressure gas charged shock absorbers are specifically engineered for 4x4s, pick-ups and sports utility vehicles (SUVs), and deliver performance, strength and long life.
MonoMax has been designed for those who use their vehicles both on and off-road, and gives the driver increased ride control and improved safety by eliminating acceleration squat, minimising braking nose dive, and controlling roll and pitch.
As its name indicates, MonoMax is a monotube high pressure shock absorber. It has a 46mm diameter tube (normally it is between 30 – 36mm) therefore increasing the volume of nitrogen and oil circulating inside. This larger capacity allows a better dissipation of heat build up.
Kayaba K-Flex Replacement Coil Springs
KYB K-Flex replacement coil springs are manufactured to original equipment specification, including tapered wire and minibloc designs, as used by Audi, BMW, Vauxhall/Opel and Volkswagen. A separate Coil Spring catalogue is available and includes a full application list.
Kayaba K-Force Lowering Kits
KYB K-Force lowering kits are manufactured to OE standards and sold in vehicle sets of 2 or 4 springs, depending on application.
Kayaba Protection Kits
KYB Protection Kits are designed to prevent dust and moisture from damaging the piston rod surface and rod seal of the shock absorber cartridge fitted inside a front strut.
When replacing struts you should also replace the dirt shield/bump stop. Unfortunately these are frequently worn or broken, and therefore thrown away and replaced.
Kayaba has a complete range of KYB Protection Kits available which are easy to fit, increase strut life by protecting the piston rod from corrosion, and thereby giving customers better value.
KYB Suspension Mounting Kits
Because shock absorbers are exposed to both mechanical stress and the ‘elements’ - rain, ice, road salt, grit, mud and grime - the fitment of a KYB Mounting Kit improves the link between the shock absorber and the car’s body or chassis. By installing a replacement Suspension Mounting Kit at the same time as the shock absorbers, you will increase the life of the new component, improve handling and control, and generally provide customers with a much better service.
