Tuition
One-to-one tuition is given over two days with an expert instructor such as Mark Higgins, the current British Rally Champion.  The first test session is no more than three weeks before the rally itself and teaches sufficient skills to ensure clients are competent to qualify for their MSA competition licence.  The second session is held in the week of the rally and will revisit some of the skills learnt from the first session, with the aim to increase speed and commitment through corners.  Tactical advice will also be given on how to handle the rally, as well as full briefing for the forthcoming event.

MSA competition licence
All prospective rally drivers must complete a basic written and practical test before applying for a competition licence from the Motor Sports Association (MSA), the governing body for 4-wheel motorsport in the UK.  A DVD is provided with full information to help you pass the written test, and your driving ability will be assessed at the end of the first day of tuition.

The rally
With most forest rallies taking place in remote areas in Wales, Scotland or the North England, they generally two days over a weekend and cover 45-70 competitive miles across the 5-10 stages.

With up to 120 entries, rallies are often split into different sections - national, historic and clubman.  All cars have to be presented for scrutineering on the afternoon before the event to check for eligibility and safety, and the driver and co-driver required to sign insurance documentation.

Rallies can start as early as 8.00am and generally finish by 5.00pm each day, with an awards presentation a short time afterwards.

During the rally there may be one or two service halts of around 20 minutes, to give mechanics time to check the car over and make any necessary repairs.

Support team
Each car has a dedicated technical support team who are responsible for maintaining the car throughout the two test sessions and the rally itself.  This includes refuelling, changing tyres and replacing any damaged parts.

Expert co-driver
Your instructor will be replaced with an expert co-driver hand-picked and trained by Colin McRae’s former World Rally Championship co-driver, Nicky Grist.  It will be his responsibility to guide you through the event.  Their key responsibility will be observing the timing of the rally and recording your times; direction between the individual stages, reading the pacenotes on each stage and coaching you through the event.  Their competence and skill will allow you to focus solely on driving the car.

Insurance
Car
Each rally package includes an insurance premium for when the car is used, and designed to cover any major damage incurred by the driver. Given the nature of the sport, there is an excess as part of the policy.

Personal liability
Your MSA competition licence fee will cover you in the event that someone is hurt while you are competing on the rally.  Additional vehicle insurance will cover you for third party liability while on the public highway as a competitor.

Accommodation and catering
We organise your accommodation and catering for the rally itself and on your training days.  This is included in the price.

In-car footage
Throughout the test sessions and the rally itself, an in-car camera will record your progress to provide an invaluable record of your experience to share with friends and family.

Safety
A helmet and fireproof racing suit are mandatory for the training and rally.  Both can be provided as part of the rally experience, or you can buy your own from a recommended supplier.

Spectators
Spectators are welcome and Rally Torque can arrange guiding to the best vantage points for your friends or family during the event.

Prices
The Rally Torque experience is priced from £29,750 for the Escort, £31,750 for the Porsche and £33,750 for the Subaru.
