Need a helping hand while on holiday?
Newly launched Richmond Retreats offer holidays with care
Retired and semi-retired people who require some help while on holiday are finding things difficult, because the vast majority of hotels are simply not geared up to provide the level of care and assistance they need.
To meet this requirement, Richmond Villages - which has a number of luxury retirement villages in the UK - has created Richmond Retreats, where holidays with care are the focus.

Paddy Brice, managing director of Richmond Villages, says: “We all need a change of scene sometimes, where we can enjoy a little rest and relaxation. A holiday usually does the trick, but what if you need the sort of assistance hotels just can’t provide? We have some of the most beautiful retirement villages in the country and these have excellent facilities. While these are often compared with five star hotels, there is an important difference.
“We offer assistance and bespoke care services based on individual needs and a care team is on site 24-hours a day. It made sense to offer all this to those in search of a worry-free holiday, where they can have a special diet, for example, or help with day-to-day tasks.”
In addition to the full or half board packages offered at Richmond Retreats, guests can opt for individually tailored care packages where their requirements can be arranged prior to arrival and priced accordingly. These can range from help with washing and dressing to a massage treatment in the spa.
“Richmond Retreats are particularly ideal for couples where one person may need more help than the other. Both can enjoy a fulfilling holiday together, with activities to suit them personally,” adds Paddy Brice. “Of course, carers and those who look after elderly parents also need a break, so a holiday with care for their loved one gives everyone a good rest.”
Facilities at Richmond Retreats vary from village to village but can include a wellness spa with a swimming pool, gym, health and beauty treatment rooms and a hair salon, a restaurant, café, shop, IT and craft rooms, a library and a bowling green.
The restaurants offer an excellent dining experience with delicious meals using locally sourced ingredients. Special dietary requirements are catered for and staff can help with menu selection to ensure a nutritionally balanced diet.
Activities typically include art classes, bridge, bowls, film nights, happy hours, supper clubs, interesting visiting speakers and live performance events.
Guest accommodation comprises spacious apartments similar to a hotel suite, with a living room, one or two bedrooms and an en suite shower-room. A kitchenette is stocked each day with basics, including breakfast items, or guests can have a full English breakfast in the restaurant. Lunch and evening meals are provided in the restaurant.
Richmond Retreats offer full or half board options for a minimum of three nights. Holidays are currently available at three of the company’s retirement villages: Richmond Northampton, priced from £115; Richmond Letcombe Regis, Oxfordshire from £150; and Richmond Painswick in the Cotswolds from £170. Prices are based on full board, single occupancy per night; double occupancy rates are published on the website www.richmondretreats.co.uk or for further information call 0845 607 6405.
