BLOOMING GREAT GARDENS AT RICHMOND NANTWICH
Richmond retirement village in Nantwich has received Outstanding Achievement status in the Britain in Bloom Neighbourhood Awards 2008 (see note), for its beautiful two and a half acre gardens.
This is the second time that Richmond Nantwich has scooped the Neighbourhood Award of Outstanding Achievement for its grounds, having also won in 2006. In 2007, the gardens also secured the gold award for the third year running in the Nantwich in Bloom competition.
The gardener at Richmond Nantwich is Jonathan Basford, who has worked at the retirement village for nine years, where he tends the communal grounds, individual gardens and a bowling green.
Jonathan strives to include plenty of colour into the schemes and describes the gardens this year as particularly vibrant. He said: “We are really delighted to win the award, which I attribute to teamwork. Many of our residents are keen gardeners themselves, and often ask if they can get involved - so a lot of people have an input into the way they look. They are a labour of love by all who care for them, and each year they get better.”
Lynne Griffin, village manager, said: “Our flourishing gardens bring residents, visitors and staff so much pleasure. It's wonderful that all the hard work that has gone into their creation has been recognised.”
Richmond Nantwich offers a range of retirement homes including luxury village apartments, serviced apartments and care bedrooms, providing residents with different levels of independence to suit all needs. Tudor style properties are built around the bowling green, courtyard and the award-winning landscaped gardens. The environment offers peace, security and a sense of community to residents, combined with superb facilities including a restaurant, shop and hairdressing salon.
