“NO PAIN, NO GAIN” SAYS FRED FROM RICHMOND NANTWICH

When Fred Allman, activities assistant at Richmond Nantwich, proudly presented a cheque for over £700 to local charity Climb (Children Living with Inherited Metabolic Disease), he proved that there is no gain without pain!  And he should know as, amongst other fund raising activities and events held at the retirement village, Fred raised almost £200 through a courageous sponsored chest wax.

Staff and residents from Richmond Nantwich, who supported Fred through his ordeal, were delighted to see that his chest hair had grown back when he bared it for the cameras.  As he handed the cheque to Lesley Green from Climb, Fred said: “Over the last year Janet Wainwright, activities co-ordinator for the village has also raised £500 for Climb, our chosen charity.  We've had coffee mornings and raffles, but I have to say the chest waxing was by far the most traumatic – thoroughly worth the pain though, now that we can hand over the money we made.”

Climb, a charity based at Nantwich Road, Crewe, aims to fight metabolic diseases through awareness, research and support.  Please ring: 0800 652 3181 (Mondays - Fridays 10am - 4pm) or visit www.climb.org.uk for information, advice or to make a donation.
