A ROARING '20s REVIVAL FOR RICHMOND RESIDENTS

Residents from Richmond Coventry took a trip down memory lane recently at a 1920's style high tea, complete with Charleston headbands, nostalgic songs from the era and a tempting array of dainty sandwiches and cakes.

The residents were joined by several children from the Leo Club of Coventry Godiva (part of the International Association of the Lions Clubs) – a local community group which aims to help youngsters develop as responsible and generous people.  Residents made feather and sequin headbands, after which everyone participated in a 1920's sing song, staged by friends and staff, featuring numbers such as 'Tea for Two' and 'Thoroughly Modern Milly.'   When throats were dry, children served residents with a beautifully prepared tea and treats.

The Leos also presented Richmond Coventry with a cheque for £100, achieved by various community fundraising events and activities, which will go towards future events at the retirement village.

Colin Harrison, activities co-ordinator at Richmond Coventry said: “The Leos were delightful young people who were absolutely wonderful with the residents.  It's super to see young and old coming together like this - everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We are incredibly grateful for their donation, too - and we hope that they will visit again soon.”

Children from the Leos, which stands for Leadership, Experience and Opportunity, were accompanied by Lion Lali Sokhi, past president of the club, who said: “The children get such a lot out of days like this – it teaches them that giving to others can be fun and rewarding.  They had a great time chatting and reminiscing with residents about the past and it gave them an insight into life in that decade.”

Richmond Coventry, conveniently located between Coventry and Nuneaton, offers a range of two bedroom luxury village apartments, serviced apartments and care bedrooms with 24 hour nursing care, providing residents with different levels of independence to suit all needs.  With its own bowling green and landscaped gardens, the residents can enjoy peace, security and a sense of community, as well as superb facilities including a restaurant, shop and hair and beauty salon.
