SSANGYONG KORANDO ‘DRIVES-OFF’ WITH CARAVAN CLUB TOWCAR OF THE YEAR AWARD

The SsangYong Korando SE has scooped the class winning prize for vehicles under £16,000 in The Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Awards 2014.

SsangYong Korando SE wins Towcar of the Year 2014 - Vehicles under £16,000 class

Over 41 cars were assessed by the judges from under £16,000 to over £51,000, and the Korando saw off stiff competition from other leading brands in the ‘Vehicles under £16,000 Class’.

The citation for the Korando stated: ‘The vehicle pulled well through all the gears and gave a smooth ride.  Stability at speed was good and it tackled the hill route with enthusiasm.  A very economical vehicle, and a worthy class winner.’

Accepting the award, Steve Gray, communications and marketing director at SsangYong Motor UK, said:  “We are absolutely thrilled.  Every model in the SsangYong range offers the caravanner a value for money vehicle with an impressive towing capability, and winning this prestigious award for the Korando further reinforces this proposition.”

As in previous years, the competition was held at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, and the results announced at the Royal Automobile Club in London.

The SE features a level of equipment you would normally expect from much more expensive cars, including Electronic stability programme (ESP) with Hill Start Assist, Active Rollover Protection (ARP) and ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD).
It also comes equipped with a number of luxury touches including roof rails, tinted glass and rear parking sensors, while inside there are electric windows front and rear, a leather covered steering wheel and gear shift, air conditioning, cruise control and a Kenwood MP3 CD & RDS radio with iPod & Bluetooth, remote audio controls and six speakers.

SsangYong cars are manufactured in South Korea by SsangYong Motor, which is 73 per cent owned by the Indian engineering conglomerate Mahindra & Mahindra, and imported into the UK by SsangYong Motor UK.  Established in 1954 it is Korea's oldest vehicle manufacturer and only 4x4 and SUV specialist producer.

There are currently some 50 SsangYong dealers covering England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, with new locations soon to be announced.
